Kroger Food Pantry Volunteer Event – Columbus

A few details about the event are below:

AGE REQUIREMENTS: 16 years of age and older are welcome. Ages 11-15 must be accompanied by an adult. Please maintain a 1:1 adult to child ratio and keep child with adult at all times.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE:

• Parking is free and on-site
• Enter through the food pantry doors on the east side of the building (closest to I-71).Check in at the food pantry office to sign-in.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING: We have pantry assistants both inside the traditional pantry and helping us with curbside service.  When you arrive, we’ll assign you a position in one of these two areas.  You may be rotated during your shift or you may remain in one area.  

• Greeting the families and providing them with the necessary information on how to shop in the pantry.
• Assist families that are shopping on the pantry floor by explaining how to use pantry selection charts, and by answering questions regarding service.
• Help organize and maintain stocked shelves from the available pantry inventory.
• Converse with families, assist them in making food selections, push shopping carts and help bag groceries.
• Taking pre-packed food orders from our pantry to our shoppers waiting in their cars.
• Maintain a clean, welcoming, and dignified space.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Primarily will work in the pantry service area.

• An energetic / outgoing personality is a real plus, as it helps the families feel welcome and accepted.

• Physical requirements include being able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and being on their feet for up to 2-3 hours at a time.

• Assist families with getting groceries to their cars and returning the shopping carts to the pantry.

ATTIRE: Attire should be something casual, comfortable and that can get dirty. Since warehouse climate can be tricky, layers are recommended.  Since you may be assisting with curbside service, please bring appropriate outerwear for the season.  For safety purposes, we cannot allow volunteers to wear open-toed shoes, sandals, or loose jewelry/clothing.
